Persecution

Writer's picture: Miss TMiss T

I admit, and I am not ashamed to say, that I am a Tommy Robinson supporter. Like many, I am appalled by the way he has been treated by our government and judicial service.

He is a man fighting for children's rights, and not just his children but everyone's children. In doing so, he has been persecuted for years and now finds himself in prison, yet again. He has never been tried by a jury and receives harsher sentences and treatment.

Tommy isn't the only person being persecuted. Across the globe, millions of people, young and old, are oppressed and living in horrific conditions. All due to man's cruelty, greed, warmongering, and corruption.

Christians have been persecuted for centuries. No more so than Christ himself. He took on the sins of the world and was knowingly murdered for it. He spoke the truth, teaching us and warning us of what was to come. His own people had him crucified, and not wanting blood on their hands, the chief priests asked the Roman governor of Judea Pilate, to judge and condemn him. Pilate's response was Jesus, as a Jew, should be judged under their law. Their accusations included; calling himself The King of the Jews, which he did not, but he was the King of the Jews and they knew it, accusing his acts e.g. healing the sick on the Sabbath, and teachings were blasphemous, and that he did not conduct himself like they did and follow the law.

Pilate told the chief priests, and the crowd, "I find no basis for a charge against this man" Luke 23:4 This went on for some time. The chief priests would not let it go and accused him of numerous falsehoods. Pilate had Jesus flogged. After the soldiers spat on him, flogged him, and put the crown of thorns on his head, he returned to Pilate. Pilate sensed he was a special man and an innocent. Pilate learned that Jesus was under Herod's jurisdiction, and so sent him off to Herod, to judge him. Herod mocked Jesus and sent him back to Pilate.

Pilate addressed the chief priests, the rulers, and the people saying, "You brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to a rebellion. I have examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against him. Neither has Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death. Therefore, I will punish him and then release him." Luke 23:13 The crowd shouted, "Away with this man, release Barabbas to us." Luke 23:18 They started shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" Luke 23:21

Pilate did not want to have Jesus killed and asked the crowd, "Why? What crime has this man committed? I have found in him no grounds for the death penalty. Therefore, I will have him punished and then release him." The crowds, shouting insistently, demanded that Jesus be crucified. Pilate finally agreed. He released Barabbas, a man who had been imprisoned for insurrection and murder.

This, although not of the same magnitude, reflects the same actions in today's society. Innocent people are being jailed for simple verbal offence, aka hurty words, whilst, sex offenders, robbers, abusers etc., are being let out of jail early. This is because there is no room in our prisons to house, all offenders. However, the British government's current actions are disgusting. It's no wonder our citizens have had enough.

The only thing that calms and keeps me sane, from all the atrocities which are happening in our country, is God. He is my tranquility in this crazy world. I love him and feel he loves me too.

Before I close, I will leave you with this message from Jesus, "Things that cause people to stumble are bound to come, but woe to anyone through whom they come. It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied round their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble." Luke 17

Until next time.

God bless!
