Happy New Year & The Rest!

Writer's picture: Miss TMiss T

I can't believe Christmas has been and gone already. I hope you had a wonderful time with your family and friends. As for me, I went to Scotland, in search of snow. There were a few frosty mornings, but I just could not find any snow. Snow was forecast for the day I was coming home!

Whilst I didn't get any snow I was grateful for the trip. I took Harry, my dog, and we had a lovely time. I also felt rather mad with myself, even ashamed - being disappointed just because it didn't snow. What about all the people in war-torn countries, sick people, homeless people? Ukraine's weather will grow colder as we glide into the middle of winter, and they are guaranteed snow. There I was in a cosy, guest house, a warm car, and with money for food. What those people would not have given to be in my place.

Every day we take things for granted because we are used to everything being the same and 'there'. A home, breakfast, dinner, bed, bath/shower, warm and comfortable living. Usually, we come to a realization when we see a homeless person, drug addict, a physically disabled person, or a blind person. I think you get the gist of where I'm coming from.

One thing that amazes me about a human being, is the heart. I think of this organ as the engine of the body. We take it for granted - we probably don't think of it at all, unless you have a condition. The heart beats 2.5 billion beats in a lifetime.* Wow!

The heart is mentioned many, many times in the Bible. Here are a few examples, from the New Testament - Jesus said:

  • "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37)

  • "But the things that come out of a person's mouth come from the heart, and these defile them" (Matthew 15:18)

  • "For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander." (Matthew 15:19)

  • “Be careful or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap." (Luke 21:34)

You will no doubt note that from the above quotes, the heart is an extremely important organ. Not just because it beats to keep us living. It's the window into the soul. When we meet new people we automatically have an opinion. Within seconds we either take to them or not. That's a whole other subject, but for this example, let's say you don't take to them because you feel jealous. The more you are in contact the more the jealousy builds. This changes your attitude towards that person. Every time you see this her/him your jealousy starts to peak. The thoughts that go through your head, come from the heart. The words you speak, come from the heart.

Hatefulness, greed, theft, it all comes from the heart. So, look after it! Work on keeping it pure, with love. We will all be judged by Jesus Christ and He will come like a thief in the night, so be vigilant.

Until next time.

God bless!
